Disclosure: I received a sample product or a discount code to use towards the purchase of one. All opinions stated are genuine and my own.
My Shay & Blue fragrance (discovery) set arrived today and it consists of (5) .3 oz spray bottles that you get to choose. All scents are unisex and are certified organic, vegan, cruelty free, and clean. They're also all very unique and well-blended. You're not going to try one of these and say, 'oh! this smells like..." and that's a good thing. I've listed brief descriptions of what I received, in order of perfume preference (most-to-least favorite), though all of them, even the one I don't particularly care for, are special in their own way.
1. Black Tulip - this is slightly sweet, very spicy/woody, but in a good way. I love this...and it's definitely 100% unisex. The discovery set is the perfect way to try this because it is NOT a safe blind buy, but if you do love it you are REALLY going to love it.
"Oriental plum flirts with creamy white chocolate and wood. Contrasts of fresh cyclamen with sensual undertones."
2. Melrose Apple Blossm. "Dancing blossoms spiked with moreish salted toffee apple, sharp lemon bamboo and cool chilled amber." I like it! Light and easy, but still rich and full of character. Not like anything else. I like that I can smell the lemon, which is a nice, true lemon scent. As it develops, there is a soft floral background behind the lemon. It's very pretty, and probably the safest if you wanted to "blind buy" a full-sized bottle for yourself or for gifting.
3. Lilacs & Gooseberries - excellent lilac interpretation with a slightly tart fruit in the mix. Lilac, Gooseberries, and Amber are the notes listed in the description of it. Someone said this is the perfume Yennefer of Vengerberg wears, but I don't know who that is? Seems like a lot of people do though... and they all seem to note that they love this perfume too.
4. Salt Caramel. Just look at the notes and you'll see why this is the most popular Shay & Blue fragrance: "Spoon drippingly glossy caramel, Caribbean Tonka Bean, and Sandalwood." I like it quite a bit, but to me it feels more like a dark rich floral caramel ("floral caramel" is not a real thing, but that's what it smells like to me). It's a wee bit powdery and definitely quite nice!
5. Blood Oranges. If you like juicy oranges (I do!) and smoky leather (I don't) you will LOVE this one. It's a fantastic, very smooth blend that does justice to the notes, but I sadly, I am learning rather quickly that I do not like seem to enjoy leather notes in my fragrances.
That's okay! 4 out of 5 is a pretty good haul when it comes to a discovery set, and the whole purpose of sampler, is to be able to try before your buy (a full-sized bottle).
I love Shay and Blue, and because so many of these were SO good, there are a few more I have on my wish list to try.
