Wishing You a Happy New Year!

I didn't meet any of my 2023 goals, but hear me out when I say, it's all good!

1. I wanted to take off a few pounds and I gained a few. My busy teaching job from years past turned into a much more sedentary one when I switched districts and ended up on my butt most of the day as kids just work through a computer program instead of actually being taught in the way I'm used to teaching. I've come to the realization that age and decreased activity levels make weight loss a bit more challenging. However, I armed with a plan and a commitment to action. This will be fine.

2. Related to #1. I have been trying like crazy to find a new job. I thought I was going to get a 911 Dispatch position. I felt like the interview went so well, and it felt like a really good fit for me. Then I got the 'we're sorry...we've decided to go with someone else' e-mail. But it's okay. Even though I don't love my job this year, it's still a job that pays the bills, it's got excellent vacation time, and it's a part of the state retirement plan I have been vested in for awhile...something that becomes increasingly important to me with each passing year.

3. I wanted to increase my $$ and instead, I have watched it diminish down to nothing as unforeseen circumstances consistently came to visit and the price of everything went up. But it's okay. Things are a little bit more challenging to manage, but we're still managing, and that's something for which I am eternally grateful.

I'm not sad that I didn't meet any of my 2023 goals because the chance to stop working on them has not arrived with a new year. Those are all fluid goals, and I am still perfectly capable of working to make them our reality.

All of the important things, the truly important things like all of my children/grandchildren being safe, healthy and happy; we have a roof over our heads; we have food to eat; I have a job, etc., are in place and they make me grateful. Especially true in a year that so so much chaos and unrest in the news. It's hard to be disappointed in not reaching goals that are still attainable. Instead, I find myself very content and very happy, and yes, I'm still very much looking forward to what wonderful things the new year may bring.

So, just like most recent years, I don't really have a list of New Year's resolutions to make, but I do still have ongoing goals I'd love to meet. I'm not worried. Peace, health and happiness are what matters most and with those things (knock on wood), our family has been very blessed.

Wishing you and yours the very best Happy New Year!

  12. Weight loss as we age offers some extra challenges. It is possible but only with clear focus and research as to what the real issue is.

  13. I dont like resolutions. It creates additional pressure. Health (both mental and physical) is my main wish to all. Without health, everything else looses its potential.

Glad you are not pushing yourself to anxiety. Often times we forget that it is as important to focus on mental health as the body. Happy 2024 to you and yours!
