Clara and John Molloy were in search of a new way to make perfume. That wanted to find a way to create beautiful scents, but instead of them being drying and full of alcohol, they wanted them to be hydrating and alcohol-free. Enter Hermetica.
My first experience with the brand was with this 100ml bottle of Peonypop that you see above. It is a fragrance that is both long-lasting and alcohol-free. Alcohol-Free? Yes, alcohol-free. I've never heard of such a thing with a luxe fragrance so I was pretty happy to give it a try. As much as I love perfume, I do find myself wondering if I should apply it directly to my skin, and many times will opt to put it on clothes instead. It's a whole different experience when it's on your skin though...
So what's it like? Well, the packing is beautiful, as you would expect coming from a luxury brand. It also has environmentally friendly packaging with a heavy duty see-through green glass bottle. The cap is a sturdy metal and very attractvive. It looks fantastic on any fragrance display.
When you first spritz it on, the scent is a little sharp, in a great way. It is a smell that is very common in fragrances right now, and one I smelled a few times while walking around Miami a couple of weeks ago.
That is all well and good, HOWEVER, like most great perfumes, it does begin to transform as it dries down. If you let it settle for about 20 minutes, that's when the magic starts to trickle end and what you end up with is a wonderful, soft, lightly floral fragrance that is like nothing you've ever smelled before. I like my fragrances to be unique, so this was a wonderful turn of events for me. It has left me absolutely smitten with the brand.
This was also a long-lasting scent. I put it on around noon and could still smell when it was almost dusk that same evening...but it was a soft scent. Nothing too in your face, and something that felt like it was designed just for me. Just to make me happy. And it was working. What a great initiation into the brand. To say I am a new fan is an understatement.
The notes, as taken from the website are: bergamot, blackcurrant, bulgarian rose oil, grapefruit, violet leaves, jasmine, lily of the valley, geranium, cedarwood, musk, amber accord, vetiver oil, plum, myrrh, and moss. These blend together to offer you a soft, delicate scent that must create endorphins because I swear, I could not stop smelling my wrists. Peonypop is delicious.
alcohol-free, and vegan.
If you're looking for something different in the world of perfume, I suggest you give Hermetica a try.
