Pastor Chuck Smith has a church that is almost dead, a heart for God, and a teenage daughter. He and his wife disagree with their daughter's open mind towards hippies and he jokingly tells her he's asking God to send him a hippie so he can better understand. Be careful what you ask for, lol. It all turns out well in the end, however, despite some big bumps along the way. You can watch the
Jesus Revolution on digital NOW and on Blu-Ray/DVD starting 4/25.
This picture is from one of my favorite scenes in the movie. Without giving too much of the story away, one of the big protests from the very small amount of existing church members, most of whom are are not in support of 'hippies' congregating in their church, is that their bare feet are ruining the carpet. Pastor Smith sets up a bowl and some water and gets to work on cleaning the feet of everyone who enters. It should be noted, there are a lot of barefoot people coming to enter, thanks to the preacher's daughter convincing her dad to invite the ultimate hippie preacher, Lonnie Frisbee.
A big part of this story that resonates with me, is that every generation is looking for something. Ultimately, when they find God, there is no need to keep looking. HE is real. And He will fulfill that something-something you just can't seem to find in other pursuits.
Synopsis: In the 1970s, Greg Laurie (Joel Courtney) is searching for all the right things in all the wrong places: until he meets Lonnie Frisbee (Jonathan Roumie), a charismatic hippie street-preacher. Together with Pastor Chuck Smith (Kelsey Grammer), they open the door of Smith's languishing church to an unexpected revival of radical and newfound love, leading to what TIME Magazine dubbed a Jesus Revolution.
