Hypnotic Poison: A Temptation that Lingers

Hypnotic Poison is a Show Stopper!

The first time I encountered Hypnotic Poison, I was absolutely blown away. I had been looking for something unique, something showstopping. I had not yet reached the world of niche perfumes, so I was still only looking in places like Ulta and Sephora (places I am still love to visit to find and buy new fragrances).

I sprayed a few different designer fragrances on cardboard strips but everything seemed pretty mediocre. Then I tried the HP. It stopped me in my tracks, it was so good! That bottle went right into my little shopping basket. It’s a scent I’ve kept in my collection ever since. It is one I hope to always own.

Robust and Fragrant

Some fragrances, although good year-round, are absolutely better suited for cooler or cold weather. Hypnotic Poison from Dior, which debuted in 1998!!! is one that falls into that category. With its excellent composition of Almond, Jasmine Sambac, and Vanilla, this perfume creates a robust scent with a lingering sillage.

As such, it is also a scent that you dare not spray too much of or it becomes cloying (a mistake I made early on). A little goes a long way with this one, and that’s actually a good thing. It means the bottle is going to last a lot longer than most do.

Breaking Down the Notes

Almond is at the heart of Hypnotic Poison, and its nutty depth serves to enhance the scent. In cooler weather, this note resonates beautifully, creating an inviting and comforting aura that's perfect for snuggling up in a cozy sweater, sitting by a fireplace or taking a walk outside to enjoy the changing leaves (or dare I say it, the snow).

The Jasmine Sambac contributes a touch of softness and grace, as well as a little sweet floral to the mix. It is a flower that blends well with the vanilla in the winter.

The Vanilla is probably the star of the show. It is a sensuous and exotic vanilla, which is probably why so many women list this as their favorite date night scent. If you’re looking for a scent that is a little spicy and a lot alluring, the soft, but very noticeable vanilla accord in Hypnotic Poison should definitely be a consideration.

EDT Projects & Lasts

Eau du Toilettes are known to fade fast, but that is not the case with Hypnotic Poison. This is an EDT that lasts for so long (especially if you spray it on your clothes).

I have no complaints in the projection or longevity departments. HP has conquered them both.

A Little Dangerous

There is no denying that the shiny red bottle is enchanting if not slightly dangerous in appearance. It reminds me of the apple from Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. Yet, it still manages to look refined and elegant. It's certainly the only fragrance I own in this type of a bottle and it is very appealing.

Conclusion

Created over two and a half decades ago and still going strong in the popularity department, Hypnotic Poison has become a fragrance icon. It is a sultry and delicious scent that embraces the power and beauty of a woman. It is one that I know I will enjoy forever more.
