We can really feel it when we don’t get a good night’s sleep. We wake up cold, our bones ache, and the only thing keeping us from shutting our eyes again is the fear of being yelled at by our boss for getting to work late. A good night’s sleep can do wonders for our productivity and mood, but it’s not guaranteed every night and we need to do different things to help ensure that we get a good night’s sleep.
So let’s take a look at some of the top ways to ensure a good night’s rest.

Ensure that your bed is comfortable
A comfortable bed helps to ensure that your body isn’t in pain at night or when you wake up. Check out this puffy mattress topper review to add a bit more comfort to your sleep or consider replacing your entire mattress if you haven’t bought a new one recently. Mattresses can feel flat and uncomfortable after a few years, so try to invest in something that will provide long-term benefits for your sleep.
Avoid caffeine in the evening
Make sure you avoid any caffeine intake in the evening, especially if you typically don’t consume caffeine. Drinking a bit of cola or a cup of coffee in the evening could ruin your sleep if you’re not careful. If you have to, try to do this at least several hours before you plan to sleep so that it can pass through your body.
Try some essential oils to soothe your mind before bed
The use of essential oils for sleeping is actually fairly common. Inhaling an essential oil mixture has been shown to improve sleep quality, and this is likely linked to the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. There is a long list of oils that are said to help you get a good night’s sleep, but the most common ones are lavender oil, ylang-ylang oil, chamomile, and peppermint. Adding these oils to a diffuser or even just smelling them from a bottle can sometimes be enough to soothe your mind and give you a good night’s rest.
Build up a routine before bed
A bedtime routine can actually help your body slowly wind down and prepare for sleep. This isn’t something that will happen immediately. Instead, your body needs to get used to the idea of a bedtime routine so that it recognizes that you’re about to go to bed. We suggest something simple, such as taking a bath before you go to bed and then doing something relaxing such as listening to some music while doing some gentle stretches. Try to avoid anything that will cause your mind to think about things; the idea is to relax and avoid unnecessary thoughts so that you can fall asleep more easily.
Sleep more
Last but not least, have you considered just sleeping more? A lot of people live busy lifestyles that permit them less than six hours of sleep per night. Unfortunately, habits like this are difficult to maintain and they’re usually sustained with supplements such as caffeine or naps throughout the day. Getting a good night’s rest might just involve sleeping more, so don’t overlook this consideration if you aren’t getting at least seven to eight hours per night.
