What Your Wedding Flowers Say About You!

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials! Your wedding is going to be one of the most beautiful days of your life, but the thing about your wedding is that it’s also likely to be pretty stressful! You have to do what you can in your planning to reduce your stress as much as possible and one of the best ways to do that is to bring on a wedding planner. Not only will they be able to work with you to get you your best wedding deals, they’ll help you to keep a great list of vendors and tasks that you need to complete to get the wedding of your dreams.

Between choosing venues and sampling cakes, you and your groom-to-be are going to need to choose flowers. Choosing new flowers for your wedding can be mind-boggling because of the sheer range of choices. Whether you choose to match your flowers to your wedding theme colors (which most brides do!) or not, you need to make sure that you choose the wedding flowers that really reflect who you are as a couple. I bet you didn't know that the flowers you choose for your wedding say a lot about you as a person - but they can!

People choose flowers for their weddings because of how symbolic they are - not to mention pretty. Flowers have been one of the world’s most popular wedding decorations for centuries and it’s because of their language. No, we don't mean that the flowers are talking to you and if they start to, you need a nap! What we mean is that each flower has its own symbolism, and you need to make sure that the symbolic meanings attached to your flowers make sense for your wedding day. For example, did you know that yellow often signifies jealousy with flowers, and yet yellow tulips signify hopeless devotion? The magnolia is a beautiful flower and it means love of nature. The flowers that you might want to include in your bouquet may include stephanotis - they symbolize marital bliss!

So, as you can see, flowers have their own way of reflecting your love for each other. You might see red roses dotted in some wedding arrangements, but depending on what you believe about old wedding superstitions, you might stay away from it because of the meaning of “blood and bandages' with the red against the white. Choosing the right flowers can be hard but with the experts at Today Flowers, you can find the ones that truly signify who you are as a couple. Brides and grooms often work together to choose flowers based on the traditional meanings, and it makes sense - weddings are a fairly traditional activity! It’s also a lovely way to add some deeper meaning into your wedding day - even one that only the two of you know. So, with this in mind, let’s take a look at what some of your flower choices can mean.

If you want your bridal bouquet to include hyacinth, you’ll be on track for a Kate Middleton-esque wedding because hyacinth means playful, with the constancy of love. This is not the only flower you’ll include in the bouquet for your wedding though, so intertwine your hyacinth with some lily of the valley and show your groom you believe them to be trustworthy. An addition of Sweet William is the nod to the groom as it signifies gallantry in your groom and gives him a place in your wedding bouquet - a nice touch, we think.

Some brides like to nod to the fact that they are more just in love with their partners. They are friends, first, and that can be shown with a mix of ivy in there. It’s also a great way to add some greenery to the bouquet and that can be a beautiful addition to the bouquet. One of the sweetest and oldest emblems of love, however, is myrtle! It’s not a flower that people often think of, so it’s a beautiful way to show off null hopes for the future.

Don't forget that it's not just the history of the flower that gives away a little about both of you as a couple. The colors that you choose matter and we touched on this with red and white being superstitious for blood and bandages. Orange flowers, however, show off happiness, eagerness and a radiant energy. They also suggest you feel confidence in your future with your partner. If you want a wedding filled with cheer, choose yellow but pick the right flowers to match. So, sunflowers and daffodils are an excellent way to showcase your love as they mean joy and friendship.

If your theme is blue, then calming hydrangeas with irises and forget-me-notes offer you the chance to show off that you can be yourselves.
