Mental health is being talked about more and more these days and that is a good thing, being able to talk about anything you are worried about or thinking about is really important. It is easy to get down especially in the world we are in now and with it increased anxiety levels have led to more and more mental health issues. With mental health a lot of it can stem from just not feeling good about yourself and who you are as a person, you see yourself in a different light to others and that is ok, but you need to try and take steps to make yourself feel better about yourself. It is easier said than done to do this but there are things you can do to try and help you feel better about yourself.
If you struggle with how you feel about yourself and you are unsure what you can do to change that perception or to try and understand it then this guide should help you to understand what you can do to help feel better about yourself and get started on your journey to a healthier state of mind.

Pay attention to your thoughts
A lot of people can tend to ignore their thoughts and not spend time listening to them, you need to listen to your thoughts so you can understand them and get answers to why you are feeling how you are. Identifying your struggles is an important place to start as you can then start to think about how you can change them and combat any struggles to start increasing your mental health.
Listen to what you want mentally
When you wake up or maybe throughout the day you will think about things you do not want to do, maybe you do not want to go out or you do not want to clean the house, if this is the case try not to force yourself to do these things. What you are doing by forcing yourself to do these things is make yourself more miserable and more unhappy with yourself because you are doing something you do not want to do. Obviously if it is something like work it can be unavoidable sometimes, but where you can listen to yourself when you do not want to do something. As long as you work at something you are happy to do rather than having to do, you will still get a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction knowing you did something.
Write down your worries, try and keep a journal
Sometimes you can feel like you are going to have a bad day and you have only just woken up, at this point it can be good to write down how you are feeling and what you are thinking. What this does over time is paint a picture of certain patterns and things that impact you constantly. If you keep some sort of journal even just for your worries it will help you get things off your chest, sometimes it helps more to see it written down instead of just thinking about it, it also allows you to know what you can work at and what could be done to conquer that worry.
Treat yourself in some way
Sometimes it can be as simple as just giving yourself some time to treat yourself and indulge yourself in something you love. Maybe you want a change of hairstyle or a makeover, you could look up the 20 most flattering hair colors for olive skin and pick one whether it is a natural color or a wacky one. Sometimes just doing something different which is for yourself and yourself only is a great way to clear your mind and forget about any worries you might have. Some worries and mental health can come from just not liking the way you look and genuinely not liking yourself so you need to try and break that up by treating yourself to something nice, making yourself feel good. Maybe buy that thing you have been putting off, if you are feeling really down buying yourself something you want can make you feel happy naturally so this is a great way to help you feel better, as long as it is affordable go for it.
Try and eat better and workout more
Being healthy is also linked to mental health, overall health can only be achieved with a balance of mental, physical and nutritional health so try getting the right balance of them all. Working out and exercising is a natural way to feel happier and feel better about yourself so try a workout and eat a lovely nutritious healthy meal. By doing this you can trigger the endorphins for happiness in your brain and this can naturally make you feel better and more energised, sometimes this is just what people need to help them feel better about themselves and sometimes there is more to it, but by making little steps and changes in bettering your health overall you are going to see some sort of benefit.
Spend time with people who support you
If you struggle with your mental health then having a strong support system in place can be really important for those times where you are unable to get yourself out of a mess that you are in due to how you are feeling. Sometimes you just need that additional support to help you out or listen to how you are feeling, even just hanging out with them and being around positivity can help you to feel better in yourself. Make sure you are not scared to reach out to them should you really need them, they are not mind readers so do not wait for them to ask if you are ok just tell them so they can help you and support you, bottling it up and hoping they will realise is not a healthy way to make yourself feel better. You also may not realise that they are struggling so having them support you then you can support them and help them with anything they may be struggling with, this can make you feel better as you are not alone and you have something in common to discuss and can help each other reciprocally.
Do something different and get away
On days where you think nothing else will work then getting away from the normal stuff in your life is a great way to help you feel better. Breaking up your routine and what you always do will help you feel better in yourself and distract you from any worries you may have. Go on a little holiday either on your own or with friends, or just take a trip to see some family, whatever it is it should help to distract from the usual stuff in your life and help you feel a bit happier. Try and do something you wouldn’t normally do, so if you always take a trip to the same place then try something different, getting out of your comfort zone can really help you break down barriers and rebuild your mental health in a new place away from the distractions of normal life and routine.
If you don’t like the way you feel about yourself and you struggle with your mental health, and you are looking for a way to help manage it or battle it then hopefully, these tips will help you to understand a few changes you can make in your life and get started on bettering your mental and overall health.
Just want you to know that for the first time in ages your site opened in Firefox. Whatever you're doing keep up the good work. The other think you can do is switch your blog from http:// to https:// because it didn't want me to come here, but I did anyway.
ReplyDeleteAll great tips for folks to heed if need be. Sometimes we all need to take this advice.
Have a fabulous day, my friend. ♥
And, if necessary, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, Jason struggles with mental health. While I agree with Elephant's Child about seeking mental health, I also want to say don't give up if you don't find the right therapist right away. We still haven't found a good one for Jason, but thankfully he's in a good place right now. We're still on the hunt for the right fit for him and won't quit until we do.
