How to Travel Safely and Stress Free with Children

When travelling with children, make sure you keep everyone safe and happy. Children often become bored easily on road trips and may not realize that you’re stopping to see the sights. If you want your children to enjoy the experience, put some thought into what you’re doing as you plan your road trip.

It is always a good idea to keep your children entertained during long drives or flights. Try taking along some old favorite videos and perhaps a few new toys and games; look here for coral camp Spongebob toys and more. If you have multiple children, try sharing a video player to make it easy to switch off and make sure the radio plays what they want to hear.

It is always recommended to book your flights at least a few days before your departure. It is always a good idea to start planning as soon as possible, meaning you know your dates. Knowing these dates will allow you to make sure you can get to the airport on time and be able to look at all the possible arrangements and prepare your travel documents.

Ensure you know the nearest stations and airports to where you will be going and book appropriate tickets for connections and onward travel if needed.

Planning a trip

To help plan a trip that works for everyone, having a clear plan in place helps make it much easier to follow. A family holiday planned from the start can mean your family is ready to go and excited to experience what your destination has to offer.

When trying to plan the perfect holiday, use a family travel website to find destinations that are fun for children, as well as helping you plan the itinerary in a way that is most comfortable for all family members. Include activities such as visiting local museums and monuments and family restaurants and bowling, all easily incorporated into your plan.

Consider booking a resort that includes all drinks and meals in your package price. This can be an easier and often cheaper alternative for travelling with children as they will have plenty of drinks on tap throughout your stay and you don't have to worry about wasted meals and money if they don't eat something you give them.

Tips for a successful trip

Take some home comforts with you to help your child have something familiar in new surroundings. Avoid getting too stressed over things you cannot change, which can ruin the trip for everyone. Remove as much expectation as possible and allow yourself to go with what happens and make the best out of a stressful situation.

Allow for time to rest and relax as cramming your trip with many activities can make young children tired and make them walk around a lot or partake in various activities when they are already tired can lead to upset and tears from everyone.

Ultimately, there is no reason why you can't travel with children, in fact doing so might give you a better experience than travelling without having them along. But following a few simple tips can help ease the stress and worry about travelling safely with the little ones in tow.

  6. Mariah always traveled well. Allison, not so much. It's so funny, she's 17 now and both Mariah and Jason, separately, asked if Allison had a meltdown on our NOLA trip (this was the first trip we didn't all take together) since she tends to get moody after a few days away from home. It was the first one that I can remember that she didn't have some kind of an attitude. Probably because Mariah's boyfriend was with us and she didn't want to look like a crazy person in front of him LOL

    1. Hurrah for the power of peers (sometimes). hahahaha :) I'm glad she had a nice time. In fact, I'm glad you all did! You know I was worried a little. I think my experience was unique to me though, most people seem to really enjoy their trips to NOLA.

    2. Thank you, Rosey! Your information helped us out with our planning and made it a lot smoother. We loved NOLA, but I do think our experience was different from yours. There were hardly any other tourists there and a lot of things were still closed down, so I think we got a more laid back vibe and encountered a lot less people, making it feel a lot safer.

  7. These are great tips for traveling with your kids. My kids always traveled well. They were happy to go and were generally well behaved on planes. The only time my son really clowned was at the END of our move to Houston -- we were driving in town and he decided he had enough. He was only 1 though. LOL My daughter had issues when we were evacuating from Hurricane Rita. No air conditioning in the car and she was 5 months old. She was not happy.
