ScentSplit Sample Perfumes Shipment #2

Some of you know I've been on a fragrance kick lately. My family certainly knows it, lol, and they may or may not have all gotten a gorgeous scent to call their own this holiday as well (and I knew what they liked because they have been testing my samplers out...I was being sneaky like that, and they didn't have a clue). ;)  Moms are allowed to be sneaky on the holidays, and I can tell you all of the kids were happy with their fragrances. I even got one for the teen that I knew he'd like (and he did).

ScentSplit is one place I love to shop for my samples. There are just so many that I want to try, and five that I found right away upon browsing their website, that I wanted to order. One I suspected I would love because I just tried another from the brand (Kilian) but I soon discovered that not to be the case. The Love Don't be Shy (which I got in my last shipment) is so good but the Good Girl Gone Bad (which I got in this shipment) is just not my cup of tea. Too much of a white floral for me (notes at the bottom of post). That is fine because that is why I buy the splits from ScentSplit, to test them before I spend the money, especially on the expensive bottles like these.

In fact, none of these fragrances were really something I would buy and honestly I was glad to know it. It's so hard to tell what you will or will not like if you can't sample a fragrance in person (which we cannot right now because of Covid-19), even if you read the notes.

1). For example, I love the notes in Salt Caramel by Shay & Blue (1), but I didn't love the fragrance. I think it is supposed to smell like salted caramel, or caramel popcorn. Literally every review I read says that, but on me it smells very floral (not the typical white florals). It's not a bad scent, in fact, it's kind of pleasant but to me it just smells like dark, rich flowers and I just don't love it. It does smell rich and a little bit unusual. Notes: Top Note-liquid caramel offset with tangy sea salt. Heart Note-smooth tonka bean adds a touch of elegance. Base Note-Bourbon vanilla for depth with Sandalwood

2). Un Bois Vanille by Serge Lutens: It does smell pleasant, but it's a little too soft and subtle, and almost smells like plastic dolls to me. It dries down to a little touch of floral with a slight tinge of a clean, almost soapy smell (very slight). Some people describe it as reminding them of a candle or a fancy bathroom, and I can see both of those things too. Probably will not buy. Notes; Black Vanilla Absolute, Licorice, Sandalwood, Coconut Milk, Beeswax, Caramelized Benzoin, Bitter Almond, Gaiac Wood, and Tonka Bean.

3. Orange Blossom by Jo Malone: Nothing unpleasant, it just smells very common to me. There is a juicy citrus (like an orange) smell that cuts through though, that is very nice. I like it well enough, but I love their English Pear and Freesia so much more! I probably won't make a full-sized purchase of this one. Notes: Clementine Flower, White Lilac and Orriswood

4). Chocolate Greedy by Montale. It literally smells like chocolate cocoa powder or chocolate milk to me. I don't hate it. It's actually kind of a pleasant smell, but I don't want to smell like a glass of chocolate milk or a bowl of chocolate cereal. To be fair though, it is called Chocolate Greedy so it stayed true to it's name. After the dry down, it is a rich, delicious vanilla smell that I really like. It still has a hint of Cocoa Krispies smell though (which is as I've said, not for me). Notes: freshly-ground coffee, powdered cacao, spicy-sweet tonka bean, and creamy vanilla.

5). Good Girl Gone Bad by Kilian. I am not overly fond of this one. The dry down for me has a tinge of something unpleasant, even if just for a second. Almost putrid even? Notes: Apricot-tinged osmanthus absolute, orange blossom and rose of May absolute that opens the fragrance are beholden by the ulitmate temptress: an explosion of the three sirens of flowers: tuberose absolute, jasmine and narcissus.

Scentsplit.com has a huge variety of celebrity, designer, and niche fragrances to choose from, in several different sample sizes. The prices start very low so it is a great way to test a fragrance rather than splurge on one that you might not like.

ScentSplit offers samples and hand decants of high quality fragrance for very reasonable prices. As you know from my previous mistakes, I am a big fan now of try before you buy. In fact, that's my perfume mantra for 2021. :)

  1. I'm really glad I read this article! I've always had issues with fragrances as I don't like floral scents and didn't even realize I can get food flavored scents! I use those for my home and would love to smell like salted caramel (good to know you don't think it smells like that because that's what I would have gotten) or the chocolate! Thanks so much!

  21. Forgive if my comment posts twice...having a problem with posts lately. I love Serge Lutens, a pricey niche house and my fav or theirs is L'Eau de Serge Lutens. It's a clean, sort of soapy scent. Sometimes I like a skin scent that doesn't scream, and this is it.
