"Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks--While Burning Fat Overnight" by Joel Marion is a book I have been talking about for the last two weeks (week 1 and week 2). Here, on my 3rd week following the plan, I find myself feeling energized and more fit. Getting healthier always feels noticeably good. So my goal, which I shared in Post #1, was to shed a few pounds. I am happy to say that was a goal that was fairly easy to accomplish, and I did, but I said I would stick with it for four weeks, so that is what I intend to do.
One thing I mentioned before (in my first and second posts) is that I love the fact that you can eat carbs and be okay, on this particular plan. We've been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
“Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary, but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.”
It makes me happy that in addition to saying I can eat what I like, "Always Eat After 7 PM" also gives me great recipe ideas to choose from any time of day, such as Coconut Cashew Protein Pancakes that I might have for mid-day/lunch or Cherry Garcia to snack on, any time of the day (or night). Hello delicious! An eating plan that includes ice cream, but helps you lose weight and feel great, is a pretty astounding claim, but so far, I have seen that it is true! You can eat like this and meet the goals you have set for yourself as well. The science of the logic behind the writing is disclosed all throughout the book, so you have an understanding of what you are doing, and why.
“In general, healthy fats can also help increase feelings of fullness and satisfaction because they regulate appetite through a number of mechanisms, including the release of appetite hormones. What’s more, combining fat with fiber has been shown to further increase the satiating potential of fat. The satiating power of fats is often one explanation offered to describe why some weight loss trials have shown that low-carbohydrate (and higher-fat) diets tend to lead to greater weight loss than low-fat diets.”
This type of thinking has been a part of my life for 3 weeks now. It's not something I thought I would be doing at all, and if I hadn't gained a pound a day during quarantine (for a short time until I felt my waist band getting tighter and turned it back around), I probably wouldn't have even considered it. Now that I have though, it makes me want to continue on the road to deliberate and thoughtful choices for my food. I like feeling energized and healthy.
