This weekend, I am home recovering from a nasty head cold, you know, the kind where your nose starts running like a faucet without you even realizing it's about to happen (too much information, I know, but I'm sure you've been there). I am just thankful it happened on the long weekend, so I didn't have to miss any work. I do fully hope/expect to be fully recovered when Tuesday rolls around. Until then, however, I am resting, eating soup, sipping on ice cold water and daydreaming about last weekend, when I got out to the boardwalk. Besides the beach, that is one of my favorite places to go.
There are two sides to this park. One has boat ramps and a small beach, though you can't swim here. You can find coconuts though, and for some reason they always entice the kids there. My oldest two boys, have been known to take a coconut or two home and open them for the milk inside.
I like this side of the beach, and quite honestly am content to sit there quite a long time and just watch the boats come in and out.
This boat is a floating bar, I think!! I see it sometimes in various places where I go to spend time by the water. The people always seem very jovial and are waving, and it is certainly a unique looking setup.
It's interesting to see the different types of boats that move through this section. Do you see the gray boat on the right? It's pretty sleek looking, and I am supposing very expensive. I just hope it lights up like a Christmas Tree at night because it's pretty hard to see in the day time!!
If you are super lucky you might run across a manatee here. I only know that because there are signs. I have never actually seen one myself. Dolphins play here too, and while I haven't seen them, one of my good friends has seen them. That would be great to come across. I always look, just in case. :)
Nature has a way of resetting you that just feels right.
Don't you think?
I get excited about the pelicans, every single time. They are absolutely my favorite birds to watch while I am there, and I never mind spending a huge chunk of my time here as well, watching them on and around the water.
Sometimes they hang out alone but often they are seen in groups.
This pair here was pretty content to hang out together. I'd like to imagine they were good buddies just hanging out on the dock, enjoying their weekend. That's what I was doing, just hanging out by the dock, enjoying my weekend. I highly recommend such things to everyone. Being outside is so, so good for you! :) Thanks for stopping by, your visits are always very appreciated, and I hope you have a wonderful afternoon. As for me, I'm going to quit daydreaming about my weekend and try to sleep off this cold. Until next time...
Those are green parrots!! I was so surprised to see them. |
This time around I thought of the wonderful blogger who runs Elephant's Child immediately upon our arrival. She often posts pictures of some of the beautiful birds that come to visit her house, and I think she would have been delighted to see all of the green parrots flying around while I was there. I have been to the boardwalk many times and never seen them before, so I was surprised that there were so many!! They would come down, eat, and all fly back together into the trees, where if you hadn't just seen them, you wouldn't even know they were there. It was truly a spectacular sight to behold. I took this picture from far away with a telephoto lens so I wouldn't disturb them.

Gorgeous pics... and when did he get so grown looking?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteSame thing I ask myself every single time I see your two littles!!!
DeleteOh... and not a long weekend for me. Work calls.
ReplyDeletebah humbug
DeleteSorry to hear you're sick, but like you say, when you spend a lot of time around those cute little germ factories called kids, it's kinda inevitable. Every single time we visit any of our grandchildren, we come home with some kind of bug or another.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pics of the beach. Ya made my heart sing a little. :) I wish I could remember the name of the place... I'm thinking maybe Crystal Springs?... but we planned a visit to see our grandchildren in FL to coincide with when the manatees usually come into the area to get away from colder waters. We saw a TON of them! (Figuratively and literally!) It was sooooo wonderful. If you've never been there, you might look inton it.
Get well soon!
Oh wow, I just looked it up and you can swim with them there. I didn't even know that was possible! Very cool. I'm sure everyone in my family would love to see it!
DeleteYou are right - I would have loved to have seen the parrots. And the gulls and the pelicans. Seeing a manatee is on my wish list too. Thank you and your son for sharing the magic.
ReplyDeleteSnap on the nasty cold front. I am currently a coughing snot factory (sorry if that it tmi).
Ugh to the nasty colds running around. I hope your coughing snot factory and mine as well, take a permanent road trip soon! As for the birds, I do enjoy them so. We don't get as many treats as you do with them, even though our climate is tropical. I've certainly never seen that many together. So nice!
DeleteI loved all your photos and your son is really growing up there.
ReplyDeleteHow in the world could you have a cold in that beautiful weather!? lol
Feel better.
sandie
I get one a couple of times a year. Guess I was due. :) Thanks for the well wishes. :)
DeleteHope you are feeling better. I didn't get to go anywhere this long weekend but your post took me there so thank you! Enjoyed all the pictures also.
ReplyDeletePictures are a fun hobby. I've loved snapping them for as long as I can remember. :) Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
DeleteWow, it looks like you had a wonderful day. Great pictures of the memories captured. I hope you feel better. I know when I get a cold, I like to flush my sinuses out with peppermint oil. Not the best thing, but it works like a charm. I hope you are having an amazing day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the tip. I do have peppermint oil in the house. Worth a try if I am still sick in the a.m.
DeleteI hope you're feeling better! Molly's been sick too, but she's on the mend. Those high school kids are germy too lol.
ReplyDeleteYep, they most certainly do. Glad to hear she's on the mend. :)
DeleteOh no! Feel better soon! But with all that fresh air, beautiful views, and some time off, I bet you will be up and running by Tuesday for sure!
ReplyDeleteI was too tired to drag myself out this weekend, but it was fun reminiscing about our visit. :)
DeleteHope you get better soon. Your pictures are lovely. Enjoy the long weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you, thank you. :)
Deleteyou look like you had so much fun. me, i run a 12k fun run. it was so much fun, as well. <3
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed your big run. :)
DeleteYou reminded me that long weekend isn't always about sleeping and netflix
ReplyDeleteI do love to get out and about.
DeleteGet well soon. My husband is recuperating from a bad cold too. However, he wants to sleep under such conditions ;)
ReplyDeleteI did a lot of sleeping too. These pics were from the week before. Hope your husband feels better fast.
DeleteThose pictures give such a sense of relaxation. It makes me just want to be there. Be well.
ReplyDeleteI do love to visit the water, and thank you!
Deletelooks like a fantastic way to spend long weekend. Oh I wish we had one but my job doesn't really allow it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good way to spend time. I didn't get out this long weekend, but that's ok. Rest was more impt., and that I did in abundance. :)
DeleteOh wow ! Your pelicans are so different from the ones we have in Western Australia!
ReplyDeleteThe white ones with yellow eyes!! They do look so different. I love your birds too!
DeleteUnfortunately it is not a long weekend for me but I spent the time relaxing. I loved reading your post. Loving the pictures too.
ReplyDeleteThank you. My tween took the best of them!
DeleteWow it looks like you guys had such a great time! It's always nice to get away for a bit and have a little bit of fun! It looked like a great long weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't get out for the long weekend, but I wish we would have. The weather was perfect for it! I did open the windows wide to let in fresh air, and that was nice.
DeleteIt wouldn't normally be a long weekend for me except I took a few days off for oral surgery. So I'm healing up before I have to be back to work on Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteManatee are pretty incredible creatures.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree. I love them. It's exciting to see one swimming.
DeleteI spent Saturday nursing a headache and on Sunday celebrating my sister's 60th birthday with a surprise party! I love birds so I was so excited about the green ones in your photo.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your sister! The birds were exciting. I hope your headache is now a thing of the past. :)
DeleteGlad you're feeling better! This looks like a nice way to recover. No matter how bad I feel, I find that if I get outside I improve so much. This wasn't a long weekend for me, but I'm glad you enjoyed yours!
ReplyDeleteGetting outside does help. It would have been nice NOT to be sick on the long weekend, but that's okay, I was overdue for some extra rest.
DeleteI did a bit of shopping for new bedding and groceries. Also taking it easy with a few movie nights in!
ReplyDeleteSounds just lovely to me!
DeleteWhat a fun long weekend. We hung out at home and did laundry.
ReplyDeleteI have to do laundry. I'll do it tomorrow. :)
DeleteLooks like you had such a great time this long weekend! I love the enjoy some free time :) Nice pics! - Paolo
ReplyDeleteThank you, the best pics were taken by my kiddo. :)
Deleteyour pics turned out amazing. looks like it was a fun time, and my kids would have loved to catch a pic of the pelican, so cute. we are all sick right now so we will have to live through your pics.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're all sick. Something's definitely traveling around.
DeleteLooks like your son had a lovely time and the weather is gorgeous (commenting from a very wet and stormy UK)
ReplyDeleteI've been there when it is wet and stormy. Still a great place to be. :)
Deletehmmm now since you were so kind as to delete my extra special comment I wonder if I can remember what I said. Hmmm hmmm hmmm "will she delete this again?" "Should I type something?" hmmm hmmm "Are such thoughts coming out?" Darn those fingers they just want to type.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots indeed. The pelicans sure look like they are good buddies. Your son took some really good ones too. Too bad the parrots wouldn't have stayed put a bit. If being outside is so so good for me though, why is there snow out there? That isn't very good. One expensive boat indeed. Better off drowning your sorrows on the bar raft thingy than going in debt for that.
LOL you can tell who really reads and who doesn't. I have one blogger friend I really like, but her comments are sometimes way off and I want to tell her skimming skills could use a little polishing. ;)
DeleteYeah, you sure can tell. One in particular I can tell and just don't even bother with her any more.
Delete'Great Story!' hahahaha Maybe I said it wrong. There was that ghost poster that always said, 'nice story!' or something similar to everything. :)
DeleteWell there is the "great post" or "nice post" people. Then the "follow me back" people then the "great review" when you didn't even review anything.
DeleteWhoa! Your son is quite the photographer. He really did get some great shots. I hope to visit here someday just on the off chance I may get to see a manatee or two.
ReplyDeleteI love to see manatees. Your surfing video was awesome. You are braver than I! :) My two oldest boys surf though, and they love it. :)
DeleteThanks for bringing these birds to life for us.
ReplyDeleteI often think of the lovely Elephant's Child when I'm out in nature.
Be well, dear Rosey.
She's a gem and I enjoy her blog. :) Happy to see you, Robyn!
DeleteNothing worse than being sick, I hope that you get better soon.
ReplyDeleteI love all your outdoors piccys looks like a lovely day out with all the boats and fresh air x
I'm up and running, which is good because I have work today. ;) :) Have a great day!
DeleteI get super excited about seeing pelicans every time too! I love when they fly low over the water and then swoop in to eat.
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool to watch them eat; that transformation with their gullet is fascinating. :)
DeleteHi Rosey - So pleased to see from your answer above that you're feeling better. I thought those parrots were leaves on the ground ... so I was glad you enlightened me - and yes I could see, once I'd twigged about them. Must be lovely to wander around there - but I'd love to see a Manatee - special creatures. Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteThose parrots are so hard to see in the picture. There are places you can swim with the manatees. I think that is great! I'm not sure I'd do it though, I'm getting so conservative as I get older, which makes me laugh because it is the opposite of my youth. :)
DeleteYou are a rockstar if you're glad to be sick on the weekend and not miss work! I'd rather be sick on a work day and enjoy my weekend. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon. As for the birds, I was more impressed by the beautiful scenery. Another reason why you don't want to be sick on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteAs for your coworker sharing resources from TpT . . . please tell her to stop. When you buy on TpT, you are purchasing a license for use in your class, only. She does not have the legal right to share these copyrighted resources. What she should do is let her coworker use her account to purchase additional licenses at a reduced price. Many sellers rely on sales to make a living, sharing not only robs them of their earnings, but also is highly illegal and could land her with a lawsuit!
I will tell her. She spends about $500 a year on TPT, and is a huge advocate of the site. I will be sure to just buy the additional license or get the product on my own from TPT from now on when I need something extra to boost a lesson. That does make sense to me, and I'm glad you pointed it out.
DeleteSo sorry you've been under the weather friend; hoping you are feeling better since it's Tuesday and that's what you were aiming for. I'm thinking of you! How old is your son? Seem slike this was a perfect way to spend your long weekend.
ReplyDeleteDry cough but feeling functional. :) The boy is grown (just ask him, lol). :) And yes, it was a perfect way to spend the weekend! Lazy, restful days are few and far between.
DeleteGreat photos! I hope I can visit this place. It looks so serene!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice park. We do love to go visit when we can.
DeleteLooks like you guys had such a great weekend! I'm looking forward to a lazy weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe are back to a busy schedule here this weekend, but that's okay too. :)
DeleteI have never seen parrots in the wild before. How neat that there were so many all clustered together like that! Your son looks like he's a budding photographer. He took some pretty amazing nature shots. I do hope you are feeling better now. I have been chomping on Vitamin C and Elderberry Gummies since the first of the year, and thankfully, not one sniffle this winter yet. Woot! Let's hope we can keep the good health flowing the rest of the season!
ReplyDeleteHe did! I loved his pictures way better than mine and told him he can be the cameraman for the blog from now on if he wants. He said, 'pass.' Phhhft. ;) i don't know what Elderberry Gummies are, but hurrah for those and Vitamin C too if they are keeping the sniffles at bay!
DeleteUnfortunately it’s not a holiday weekend for us here in Australia. I wish it was though. The extra day to relax would be just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAgree, long weekends, even if you're sick and resting, totally rock. And I did think about my title when I posted. So many of my readers are not from the US. :)
DeleteI do like the bird pictures. Do you ever eat the coconuts?
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you got sick! :( I've lucked out, and haven't gotten much this year. Some years it's sickness through the whole season, type thing. Not this year.
My two oldest sons open them and we eat them sometimes. :) I'm glad you've lucked out of being sick this season!
Deletegoing through one of those colds now and its horrible! glad you're feeling better.
