5 Things People Love, that I Don't...

I used to feel a bit like the odd man out, when I was younger. Today, I just accept that everyone has different tastes and I move on. Still, if I mention some of these things, people sometimes act like the world is on fire, "You don't like what?!?!?!" Enter the crazy, mouth-open, eyes-bulging face to accompany their statement.  Phft. There are so many things I could care less about that are very trendy and on the priority list of many. My list could get pretty huge, but for the sake of time, and just putting up a short, fun post, I'll shorten it to (5).

#1. Starbucks. It feels almost counter-blogger to make this claim...but I just don't like it. At all. It's not all that flavorful to me, and the flavor it does have, just isn't very pleasant.  I really cannot understand how this coffee cafe got mega-watt popular, all over the world (their massive coffee mugs with a city name on them were cool though!).

Fun Fact: I've never even been tempted to buy a tie-dye frappuccino, a unicorn, or any other limited-edition specialty drink, for that matter. *Gasp* 😉

#2. Ripped Jeans. I have been socialized enough to think that these sometimes look good on others (and believe me, that took awhile), but for the most part I hate them. That being said, I have spent money on them once (for my then-teen-daughter)...and inadvertently twice, if you consider that a gift card I gave my 2nd oldest went to purchase a pair of them, but I've never really liked them. In fact, the first thing I think of when I see them, is 'they're going to rip more in the washing machine,' which to me is a waste of money! And they're SO EXPENSIVE!! Why on Earth are we paying for an item that is going to fall apart so fast? The most surprising thing about this trend to me, is that it has lasted for so long!! I thought when it first became 'a thing' that it would come and go. That was literally years ago. It is still here!

Fun Fact: I used to intentionally cut holes in the knees of my skin-tight Levi Strauss or Jordache jeans when I was a teen (it was the trend), and my mom would have a fit!!

#3. Scary Stuff! I'm talking movies, haunted houses, Halloween decorations, even songs! Anything that is gory, or horror-related is just not my cup of tea. Halloween Horror Night is big here right now, where people head to Orlando to walk through the scary displays at Universal Studios. For me, it's the one time of year I am perfectly content to stay as far away as possible from the city of amusement parks. The scariest kind of Halloween entertainment I like (wasn't anyone else alarmed that Linus was out so late at night?!) is Peanuts (Charlie Brown).

Fun Fact: My BFF in 7th-grade (and still today) 'forced me' to watch "My Bloody Valentine" when I was a kid. I was already scared of those kinds of shows, even though I had never seen one, and watching it (with her parents in the dark room, laughing at me), sealed the deal. The only scary movie I've seen since, that I remember, is The Sixth Sense, which I thought was good.

#4. iPhones (or any phone that has a huge price tag). I love that these phones take great pictures, and I do see that as a HUGE bonus, but paying over a thousand $$ for a phone that you are going to trade in for another one that costs the same amount, in a very short time, just doesn't make sense to me. In fact, paying that much money for a phone EVEN ONCE doesn't make sense to me.

Fun Fact: I have talked to at least a handful of adults who have said their expensive iPhones had a big problem that wasn't covered under their warranty (including my grown daughter who bought one that froze immediately, and was told even though it wasn't her fault, they couldn't replace it because that kind of thing wasn't covered). Those people usually suck it up and buy another one (as did my daughter). I find that astonishing!

#5. Tattoos. I'm sorry, I know that a lot of people love them, but I just do not. We change our mind so many times about what is fashionable, what is beautiful, what we like or don't like...that putting something permanent on our bodies seems like such a premature decision. And the trend to put these huge ones all over our bodies, including on our necks and faces just baffles me. They seem contagious too...if you get one, even if you say you're only getting one 'and that's it,' it really isn't long before you're planning on what your 'next one will be.'

Fun Fact: 3 of my 4 children have tatts, and they love them. I think they're probably all planning their 'next one' too, or at least have ideas on their radar. 😜 To each his own, I know. My generation started with men in platform shoes, polyester pants and floral shirts, so who am I to judge? I will say though, at least that trend was a very temporary one (thank goodness).

Your turn?
Anything you don't care for,
that everyone else seems to love?

  1. I am with you about iphones.
Television is the thing I don't care for, which other people (including those in this house) love. I just never developed the habit.

  2. I am not a fan of scary movies or haunted houses either. I'm indifferent to halloween decorations though ;)

  3. I totally agree with you about tattoos and ripped jeans. I’m not a fan of Starbucks either!

  4. Well it's nice to stand out in these things too. Have the courage to say "hey I don't like it" when the masses consider them must -.-

  5. Same about Starbucks! Or any coffee shops on that matter. I don't know why my anxiety spikes up whenever I enter coffee shops lol.

  6. Never went with iphone or Apple anything here either. Starbucks, meh. Never saw the point in ripped jeans. How is it style? I can cut a hole in them for free. Tattoos I never really got into, always think that it will be there forever, and as you say, change ones mind every now and then. As for scary stuff, I don't like it much because to me it is eye roll worthy. Everyone in those scary movies always does stupid stuff.

  7. Hi Rosey - I agree with 4 of those ... the iphone I've rather liked!! Got another one now - drives me demented - built for a man ... ie too large for me to easily handle. Re tatoos I met a nurse who said one of her children has a living removing tattoos!!! So there's always jobs around ... somewhere - cheers Hilary

  8. This is great, to be confidently self aware.

  9. I'm with you on tattoos! All of the other things, on the list, minus the ripped jeans my wife and I enjoy. I guess "to each their own" comes to mind. It's ok not to like whatever seems to be the norm, or current trend

  10. I am with you about all. I am not a coffee fan hence not a Starbucks fan. Not a fan of ripped jeans. I have a hard enough time finding jean why make the with holes. Do not understand the marking of your body with tattoos. Scary stuff--I am not a fan. As for an iPhone--don't have one.

  11. I try not to be judgmental. Sometimes it is hard but I keep reminding myself. Be yourself and do what you like))) you manage it perfectly.

  12. Same, im not a fan of starbucks either! worst coffee ever lol ripped jeans, some can pull it off but i cant and tatts also.

  13. Interesting! I like a Starbucks once in a while but could not think about having one daily. I don't like scary movies and the worse part is that during Halloween the ads of scary movies are everywhere.

  14. I don't have an iphone and don't like starbucks. It tastes bitter and artificial to me. I don't like harry potter or star wars, but most of my family does. I'd rather watch Space Balls :)

  15. Haha, such an interesting post! I don't like tattoos either 😜 So much pain, gosh!

  16. I agree with you on all of your items here. Something else I don't get is something just because a celebrity endorses it. You know the celebrity is getting paid some big money, so what they say doesn't influence my decision in the least. I'd rather hear from people that live around me and that I've known for awhile that own this or that about the pros and cons of the item if I think I might want to purchase such an item.

  17. Girlfriend, you and I are five for five! I'm not into any of those.
My reasons for not liking starbucks are a bit different. I do like their drinks, but only because I have a sweet tooth. They should NOT call their drinks "coffee", except their straight coffee, which nobody goes there for. It's all fat and sugar and more sugar dosed in whipped cream. Also, I don't like to patronize mega chains.

Have a pleasant week and be well, Rosey.

  18. I just don't like scary movies. Starbucks is so-so. Not really my coffee!

  19. "iPhones".....we definitely agree on those two! I, for one, don't dig this phone much!

  20. I'm glad you didn't say you didn't like chocolate!

  21. I hate scary things! I say alll the time how I don't get how people almost poop their pants for fun smh. I love everything else you mentioned though except tattoos. I dpn't love tattoos but they are ok and look good on some people. If I were to get one it would be of something that means a lot to me and I doubt my kids names or something like that would ever not be good to me anymore. But other than that I can never think of a tattoo idea which is why I don't have one lol.

  22. I agree with many of these. I don't like tats, which to many seems odd because I'm artsy. Well more than not are done poorly. I don't mind when tats are done great though. My husband has some. I'd rather he not have them.

I'm not a huge fan of Disney or Peanuts. Disney does have good movies, I just don't like that they own so much, and redo things for the $$$.

I'm kind of cheap, so would never resort to going somewhere expensive for coffee. I have gotten a Starbucks GC for Mica's Quiz Bowl teacher last year because I saw her holding that cup in her hand every time she came in. It was for her, not me.

Isaak like holy jeans, Mica not so much. I'm neutral for them, but would never wear them for myself. I don't like short shorts and skirts for girls. They just make them too short now a days!

Apple is much like Disney. They own a lot! I am more used to them. I did get my boys Samsung phones to start out with because of the $$$.

  23. OKay so I am also not a tattoo fan but definitely get why people get them. Don't get why they get 100 of them sometimes. But to each their own. I have never ever ordered a frappucino or whatever fruity sweet gross fattening drink at Starbucks either. Not my thing. Also so much money!!

  24. I am with you on the scary stuff! I HATE clowns!

  25. i don't like game of thrones and yet it seems like everyone else does. too gory and too much nudity.

  26. Haha love this. I hear you on the jeans thing. ripped jeans are not a good look for me too xx

  27. Starbucks has gotten so $$ that we don't go that often. And the high calorie products are too sweet.

  28. Rosey, you are my twin.
I cannot stand Starbucks. It just doesn't taste right to me and yes I've tried um some. yuck.

    2. Same with me on the ripped jeans. If mine rip, it's time for a new pair. Perhaps I should just sell mine then eh.

    3. Same for me and the halloween stuff. I am fine just not seeing it at all. Nothing about it is endearing to me. It's all ugly and frightening yuck. bah.

    4. I vomit just thinking of the prices on these phones and I wish people would really just say no and buy other phones and see how long they'd keep upping those prices. Ugh. No.

    5. I absolutely agree with the tattoo. I didn't even do the temp ones that they had on stickers and didn't encourage my kids to do it either and they didn't care for it either. bah.

    Yep, we twins :)

  29. Oh, I do love a starbucks, not that we have one near us sadly. I cannot stand tattoos but two of my kids have them now :(

  30. The only time I go to Starbucks is for happy hour frappucinos, and that's very rarely. I prefer McDonald's caramel frappe over Starbucks any day of the week. You get more and it's cheaper and tastier.

I don't like ripped jeans either. It ticks me off to no end that Mariah gave Leah all of her old jeans and she immediately took scissors to every pair and chopped holes in them. We're talking brand new looking jeans she destroyed in seconds.

I think scary movies are stupid, but I do love going to the haunted houses this time of year. I also don't like gory decorations, but I love to see yards decorated in the cute stuff for Halloween.

I have one tattoo and regret ever getting it. My best friend loves them and is always planning her next one. She's been trying to talk me into getting matching ones for years, but I just don't think I could or ever will.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I dislike that everyone else does. Maybe fancy cars and houses? I'm more suited for simplicity over extravagance.

  31. I'm right there with you on the Starbucks bandwagon. I think it's way overpriced and people pay for it just because of the name. I think I've drank Starbucks twice in my life. I actually like scary stuff and Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. I love horror movies....with the exception of Nightmare on Elm Street. Traumatized me as a child and I had many years where I was scared to go to sleep because of it.

  32. I agree with you on the Starbucks.. and apple products in general..
