Of course, there was the beach itself, the world's most famous beach. Daytona Beach is famous for its large width and hard-packed sands that you can drive a car on. Though we didn't do the latter, I did see others who did, and in one particular instance, there was an ice cream truck doing it. How brilliant for the kiddies! One important thing to note is that there is a lifeguard on duty.
Steps away from the hotel you had direct access to the Main Street Pier & Boardwalk.
One particular place of interest that we found was an old-time candy store. If you take an eleven-year-old out walking and come across a store full of treats that's a homerun hit.
The room itself was your standard two-bed with a mini-fridge. That window behind you, the gorgeous glass windows that led to the beautiful beach view, is what made you say oooohhhh! when you walked in. This room was very clean, the beds were amazingly comfortable, and we couldn't hear anything in any of the rooms around us. The showers were hot and the water pressure was good.
Fortunately for me, I didn't have any work to do on this trip, but if I had brought some along, what a gorgeous place to sit and do it.
This is me standing at the actual doors. On the far right you can see the pier. I honestly couldn't wait to get down there and poke around a bit. We'd seen it the last time we visited Daytona, but we didn't have time to look around much. Staying at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, we could explore at leisure.
The pier is pretty extraordinary to behold. It's the perfect break of beautiful beach scenery and it adds more than a modicum of interest as well. There were people on it fishing, people under it doing the same, and there were people on the far end of it (where there was no water), relaxing in its shade while their loved ones frolicked in the sun.
Me? I went under the far end of the bridge, where the water met the sand, and ventured through the foundation. It was pretty nice, and even though quite a few others had the same idea, it really wasn't crowded. In fact, there wasn't anything overly crowded on our trip because we went during the week. Once the weekend started to roll in, the people did too (and who could blame them?).
We had some precious guests back in the room, so we headed back after a bit to go get some more visiting time in. The building on the far left is the backside of our hotel. It surely did strike an impressive note. If you were coming to this area, this is the kind of hotel you would look at and say, "I want to stay there!" In fact, that's exactly what we said on the last visit we had to this area, and voila, you see where we chose to stay this go around. 😍
There were two pools to use. This huge one is where we went the first day we arrived. You can see the amusement park rides on the boardwalk from here. There is also plenty of seating, many areas of which have umbrellas if you want to avoid the direct sun, and a hot tub obscured from the big pool areas. You can get drinks and eats at this pool too, and there is direct access to the beach.
The hotel is huge, and there is so much to see and do. It was truly a joy to visit, and we will return.
What would you do if you had a view like this? Hopefully you would relish it like we did when we first came across it from our hotel room in the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort.
Every direction that you looked in allowed you to see yet another gorgeous scene, and if it hadn't been so enticingly beautiful out there, I could have stayed in the room and watched it all day long. We did, however, decide to go out and explore. Here is the same view you see in the first picture, up close and personal. If you look carefully, you can see the clock has the letters for Daytona Beach in place of the numbers that would normally be there. What a great feature.

While we didn't utilize the ice cream truck on the beach, we did get a frozen icee on that boardwalk. You could get most any kind of food or drink there, or within the general vicinity. Location was everything! Places to eat, drink, and play were in every direction you could step. We did so too, in the morning, in the afternoon and at night.

On the left you see part of the bandshell. Live music plays there on the weekends, so I imagine it is an entirely different, and amazing in its own way, scene once Fri-Sun does arrive.

My favorite thing about this particular pool visit was seeing my daughter and youngest granddaughter get to take a swim. Little one's been in the pool with her mama before, but this was my first time to see it. She was completely at ease (and oh so wonderfully sweet and adorable).
The pool on the other side of the hotel had a large concrete platform and was up on a roof that occupied the 5th-floor. Right beside it was D-Dawgs Kid Zone. This supervised room had video games, an oversized Connect 4 game, a foosball table where I lost rather heartily to my son, air hockey, and these little areas you see in the picture above (to draw). They do have special events at different times, and if you are traveling with kids you will want to check it out.
There are quite a few places to eat on the premises (seven restaurants and lounges from which to choose), from quick eats, to sit-down casual to a high-end steak house. We chose to have lunch one day at Don Rico's Sports Bar & Grill. This location offers casual dining (lunch or dinner) with a friendly staff and the food was delicious. In fact, I found a new favorite balsamic dressing when I ordered my Caribbean Mixed Greens Salad.
I enjoy a salad that is loaded with different types of greens and fruits, especially in the summer when you want to stay nourished and not hungry, but you want to do so with something light.
The classic lunch dish favorite in our family is the burger and fries. In fact, you can never go wrong with this meal if my son is involved, and this was served on a delicious brioche bun and had seasoned fries served in a paper-lined wire basket. My boy was in his food glory. My daughter enjoyed the wings, which I suspected she would when I saw them on the menu, and we also ordered a chicken club sandwich with handmade chips for her man, but he ended up getting delayed in the room. We took it for him to go. This was food not to be missed.
We also took advantage of the breakfast buffet in the mornings that is served downstairs in the hotel restaurant area. There is a charge for it, but there is also everything you could think of for breakfast on the buffet menu. There is also a made-to-order omelet station. Truly something for everyone was available and the quality was top-notch.
The hotel is huge, and there is so much to see and do. It was truly a joy to visit, and we will return.

Yeah, with a view like that could sure relax in the room and people watch for a while. No crowds through the week is the way to be. Kiddo being at ease in the pool sure is a win too. A great spot by the looks of it, but fun to explore under the dock a bit too.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of resorts (or of driving on the beach) but there are some lovely scenes there.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such wonderful family time.
The view of the ocean is awesome. What a wonderful place to reunite and splash away! Your son has grown so much! Gr-daughter needs a lot of kisses.
ReplyDeleteI love Hilton properties. In fact we're going out of town tomorrow to attend a funeral and we're staying at a Hilton property. I want my comfort and they have it.
ReplyDeleteYour son is most handsome.
Have a fabulous day, my friend. ♥

ReplyDeleteMy husband went to college in Daytona. Looks like a nice hotel!!!
ReplyDeleteEven though I lived in Orlando for 7 years, we didn't go to Daytona Beach very often. I know a lot of people who did, though, and liked that it was a drive-on beach. Being on the Atlantic Coast, it also has much better waves than the Gulf Coast where I grew up. Looks like you all had a great time and yay for not having to work while on vacation!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Daytona but it looks like a cool place to visit.... and the Hilton you stayed in looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a beautiful property! I have to say this, but in that first photo of your daughter, she looked just like Reese Witherspoon!
