What's one way to make the long road trip more fun? Well if you're a child, HABA Terra Kid Binoculars do the trick, both in and outside of the car.
The set comes with the adjustable binocs and a neoprene bag for storage. The latter was essential for keeping them scratch-free. One thing you don't want is to have scratched up binocular lenses.
These binoculars are tough and durable too. HABA was thinking ahead on lots of things when they made these because kids are sometimes unintentionally rough on things, especially if they are also made for outside use.

The center dial allows you to adjust the size of your binoculars...so they are the perfect for whatever size kiddo might be using them at the time. The dial is super easy to move too, but it does have to be intentional, which is great because that means they won't get moved accidentally while you are looking at something. They do extend all the way flat, so even adults can use them.
I wanted to note too that the bag has a latch that is designed for kids too. You squeeze the prongs to open it, and if you don't, that bag is holding tight. As you can see in the photo above HABA has considerately included a lint-free wipe cloth for your lenses as well. You can easily tuck that right into the carry bag too (and I used it for my sunglasses, lol, so double duty can occur). ;)
My son took his out to use every time we stepped out of the car. I used them a couple of times too. They are great for bringing things closer, magnifying the view by 4x. We were able to see in the mountains further than we could have without them, so that was really cool. The best part though, at least for this young man, was just looking at things you see all of the time, but seeing them up close when you were far away...
you know, things like...YOUR MOM, lol. For some reason my son found it extremely funny to see me through these. Every time I turned around I heard, 'Mom!' coming from kind of far away. One time I looked and he was standing next to the welcome sign at a rest area. We decided that would be a fun theme for our trip and we stopped for a photo at every state we went through afterwards The only one we missed was Georgia, because we went there prior to South Carolina. I haven't printed pictures yet to make a photo album, but these sign photos will be a fun addition for sure, and they'll help us to always remember where we went. :)
They have a nice size to the attached carrying string too, so if you wanted your child to put them away and help carry water bottles and snacks to the car (*ahem*) they could temporarily suspend their viewing antics, and then get right back to them when they're finished helping, or doing whatever it is that takes them away from their binocular fun.
Extended Flat |
I mentioned earlier that these binoculars can extend flat, and I took the photo above so you could see how that looks.
The smallest (distance) size on the adjustable wheel is seen above. |
On the other end of the spectrum, you can see them folded to the smallest size in the photo above.
We used these primarily outdoors, but you can use them inside too. I think they'd be great for using when you are at concerts or other inside shows as well. That is especially true if you are stuck getting seats high up and far away (some shows are worth that kind of view, but it's still always better to be able to see).
And here my son is tucking them into his case to put them away. These are a useful gift for a child that will also be fun for them too. HABA always makes items that last and last too. I recommend them highly.

Hi Rosey - they look and sound so useful ... your son obviously loves them ... great he'll be investigating things. Love the idea of the sign photos - certainly will help remember where you visited etc - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteSounds like he had tons of fun with them indeed. The strap is always a nice touch, have used ones without it and they are just a pain in the butt as you either have to always hold them or stick them somewhere when doing anything.
ReplyDeleteThose are really nice binoculars! I like that there is a strap so there's a better chance that the kids won't lose them. Good post!
ReplyDeleteThis binoculars seem very useful, not only for the kids but also for the parents. I think we could enjoy the great views when we travel using this.
ReplyDeleteGreat that your son enjoyed them. It's not easy sometimes finding something that kids will actually use and enjoy. :)
ReplyDeleteMy stepson has been wanting some binoculars for a while now and these ones sound great! Shall have to see if we can pick him some up x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for both boys and girls. Okay I was a tomboy when growing up.
ReplyDeleteYour son is handsome and ever so helpful too.
Have a fabulous day and week. ♥
Those binoculars sound terrific. Certainly better than the ones I had... and loved... as a kid. Those things were made of metal, and they were very heavy. The lenses were yellowish orange, but I have no idea why. Anything that can enhance a child's curiosity is a good thing, and it sounds like these binoculars do the trick.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely review! You made my day. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the book. (Told ya it was different!)
There's nothing like a great tool to help the kids explore more of their surroundings. Glad everyone had a great time.
ReplyDeleteBinoculars are always fun, and useful, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip to South Carolina! This destination is on our bucket list.
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute! I remember when my son had binoculars for kids. They grow up way too quickly!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea for a road trip!! I love this! When my kids were younger and were on the road, we had a portable DVD player installed and let them watch movies with wireless head phones LOL I never thought of the binocular idea!
ReplyDeleteSusan you always do a great job with your writing!! Love those up-all-nighters...it's hard to find a book these days that'll keep me from wanting to sleep! :)
ReplyDeleteAs a kid I used to love to see through my dad's binoculars. I know my daughter would love these, they look amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea! This seems like an awesome trip. Thanks for sharing! :

ReplyDeleteSuch a cute product! Would make a really awesome kids gift.
This reminds of the day my dad bought us binoculars. I was so excited pretty much as your son is. I think they are great for kids and helps them to start cherishing nature.
ReplyDeleteThese binoculars look like such a lot of fun. I know my daughter would love the color of them. Such a fun shade of green. I remember loving binoculars can be fun.
ReplyDeleteI remember how much I loved playing with binoculars when I was a kid. My girls always loved having a pair too. I always love seeing kids using them to scope out nature instead of scoping out electronic screens all day.
ReplyDeleteI remember using my dad's binoculars. It was very heavy and very sturdy. This is a better option.
ReplyDeleteI bet those helped make for a fun trip!
