My Son is an ICMAC 2018 Championship Kung Fu Gold Medal Winner!! Woot!

My oldest son is on the far right. I found this picture online while I was searching for pictures of him at his fight. He's been involved with Kung Fu on and off for many years, and was diligent about it when he was a kid. He used to be in the Lion Dance parades, and even made the newspaper a time or two (yep, saved those clippings). Now as an adult he goes in and helps train at the same place he was trained growing up (as seen in the photo above). How many ways do I love that? I can't even count them.

He's dedicated to working out and has been for as long as I can remember. I found this video of him online working out with a tire. My youngest says I'm a stalker. If my kids are involved, you better believe it. :)  My youngest, incidentally, is now also running around pretending to do Kung Fu with the air, because well he's a stalker too. If his sister or brothers are involved, well, you better believe it. The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. ;)

He helps train grown-ups to fight too: men,

and women. Just as he was in the military, he trains fair and competently. Those under his tutelage in the military loved and respected him (the ones we met, and I'm sure many others), as I'm sure his trainees here must (I'm his mom, of course I feel this way, but it's fact too). He has a wonderful calm nature about him (unless he's working out or fighting, then he's a beast). :)

Happy to give credit though, if anyone who comes across it knows who took the photo.
In June of this year, a huge Kung Fu Championship took place in Orlando: the ICMAC 2018. There were 10 rings and record attendance, with people competing from all over the world: USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, Colombia, Belgium, Italy, Japan, Bermuda, Australia, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, and Azerbaijan. Here you can see my son sitting in the front row (headphones on). In the very front (standing) is Sifu Joe Keit, a man he has respected, and still very much does, since he was a young boy in school.

And here are the medal winners from my son's group. My son is in the middle. All San Shou fighters from my son's team took home a medal that day. 2 silver, 1 gold. My son got the gold. Big hurrah to him, I know it was important to him to win. He's a quietly fierce competitor for sure, and I love him so. Way to go, son! #proudmomonboard

  3. Love this! I have studied a few forms of martial arts since childhood, that and all things equestrian were my passions! I had to stop my martial arts a few years back but hope to try to continue in a more modified way as soon as I am able. Martial Arts was incredibly beneficial to me, it is so cool that your son now teaches where he once trained, there is something wonderfully full circle about that!

  13. Congrats to him! I kind of wish my sons would have been able to stick with martial arts. Their instructor said that he was in a car crash. Because he knew how to roll, it saved his life. It's such a great way to defend one's self.

  19. I used to when he was younger all of the time. I'd have been at this one if we weren't traveling! His brother and his brother's girlfriend were there to support him. :) And I laughed at your 'nervous wreck' note. It reminded me of his first time on a high school football field. I jumped up and said, 'don't hit him!' when someone hit him (in football!!!!). It just came right out. I've gotten better. ;)
