I've found a place where no one has their cell phone out, unless it's to take pictures of the show. Yep, it's that entertaining. This is a dining experience like no other, and you'll find it in Orlando (there's also one in South Beach/Miami)...it's called Mango's Tropcial Cafe-Orlando, and believe me, you don't want to miss it!
Reservations are recommended because this place is hopping. We got there a bit early, I wanted to check out the venue, but rest assured the seats you see above did not stay empty long. This is the back end of the room, and even it was entirely full by the end of the night.
The stage is magnificent with two staircases cascading down each side,
and the menu is HUGE. There's really something for everyone on it, even the kids.
We settled in and ordered our drinks. An ice water for me, a Shirley Temple for my son, and a Mojito for my son's aunt.
The multi-layered show runs throughout your entire dining experience. and it is fantastic.
We ordered our salads,
Appetizer: Mango's Famous Gourmet Mambo Wings |
and the appetizer, both of which were hits all the way around.
There were dancers who came out in groups and did synchronized dancing,
There was singing galore! This guy was great, very polished and professional on the stage.
Up high, at the top of the stage was the band, sometimes the lead singers, and a video screen that kept changing so everyone could see the show.
There isn't a children's menu, but the chicken finger appetizer and a side of fries worked perfect for my youngest son.
I wanted to order a Brick Oven Pizza but my SIL talked me out of it. She said I always order pizza when we go out... and I do! I love it so. ;) But to mix it up a little, I did try the Pasta Primavera. This was a vegetarian dish with broccoli, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, and fresh tomatoes sauteed in garlic and olive oil, served over pasta al dente. It was delicious. No complaints from me. She ordered a meat dish served over mashed potatoes and she ate every bite of it, with a smile.
While we were dining the singing, dancing and musical entertainment continued.
The band did a knock-out great job,
and when the dancers came on with a modern dance style that I am sure is no longer called Break Dancing (they weren't on the floor much, maybe it's called Popping? *sigh* I'm too out-of-date to know, lol) my son was all eyes and ears. This is right up his alley and he had a blast watching them perform.
You probably already know this, but let me tell you, Latin people can move!! I knew this too, but I have never seen a show in person. What a grand performance by everyone involved!!
It was the couples-dancing that was my favorite. I'm not sure if that's a throwback from the days when my grandma would watch couples dancing on TV (and dance along) or what... I suspect that it was because anything involving memories of my gram is a happy thing for me. :)
They really looked like they were having fun up there, and boy did they have talent...by the bucket loads!
After dinner we were presented with a dessert menu.
Let me do a close-up on that...because this was no ordinary dessert menu. This was one delcious group of tasty items from which to choose. None of us partook (we were stuffed) but trust me, these did look amazing! Definitely next time!
The performers took turns going back and forth, alternating the types of entertaiment.
I have always been partial to the instrument solos in a concert (this show wasn't a concert, in fact it lasted a little longer than a concert would, I think. You really get your money's worth at Mango's), and the sax player was awesome!
As the night wore on, different cultures were represented by the performers.
It was fun to see the traditional dress styles and types of music that are considered the norm from each.
Fun fact for the night: those who are hosting you do get up on the stage and perform. That's Suzette (our server), on the far left. In addition to being nice, she did a great job with her routine. Another girl with major dance moves and a genuinely pleasant persona as well.
The dry ice effect came out and ...
zombies were everywhere. One was right next to my SIL when she turned around and she about hit the ceiling with her jump (that's funny stuff). That's a Thriller rendition going on in the photo above. Do note that at any time you are free to get up and take advantage of the dance floors. At one time there was a Conga Line going around the restaurant too. It was a very energizing atmosphere and you can't help but want to get up and move!
More solo performances from different artists and instruments,
and more Michael Jackson. ;) We left right after this performance because it was getting late, shirts were coming off (of the male dancers, lol) and the dancing was taking on a little more adult nature. It was nothing obscene, not by any means, but I had an 8-year-old with me who didn't want to see it...I laughed, but truth be told, I think it's sweet that he's conservative and wouldn't change one thing about him. Let the kiddos be kiddos...'cuz that time def. goes by fast. Now that last statement is not to impugn one thing about the show. It was great, we had a great time (my son loved the majority of the show, especially the beatbox...or whatever the proper name is...someone help me, lol), and the Michael Jackson skits (MJ is featured on one of his video games, ha!).
There were quite a few children in the audience, and the entertainers got the kids right out on the floor front and center and they were having a blast. My personal opinion though... why not leave the kiddos at home and have a grande adult-time out on the town. You deserve it, and there's no better place to do that than Orlando, especially true if you're headed to a most excellent night out at Mango's Tropical Cafe!! This was one awesome show. I give it 5 out of 5 stars for the adults, and like I said, there wasn't one person who had their eyes on their cell phone the whole entire night. A place where all eyes are on the stage? Yeah, that's quality entertainment!
Oh how fun and the food looks so very good. I want to go.
